Wife of the Serbian President, Tamara Vucic, together with Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Prof. Dr. Daria Kisic and Assistant Minister Biljana Barosevic visited the “Sounds of the heart” Work Center and café, where young people with developmental disabilities are employed.
The “Children’s Heart” humanitarian organization was founded on 9 March 2001 to implement programs aimed at improving the quality of life of children and young people with intellectual disabilities.
In pursuit of this goal, “Children’s Heart” organization implemented dozens of independent life enabling programs for PWDs, such as the “School of Life” and “School of Life Skills”, as well as social inclusion programs in which both children from regular elementary schools and children with developmental disabilities participated, conducted trainings for social welfare institutions staff, implemented campaigns aimed at raising public awareness of the rights and potentials of persons with disabilities, and social inclusion activities.
In order to create conditions for vocational aptitude development and labour engagement of persons with disabilities, “Children’s Heart” organization opened the “Sounds of the Heart” Labour-Engagement Occupational Centre. This labour-engagement centre is unique in Serbia, and through its operation people with intellectual disabilities break prejudices and show that they are active members of the society.
The labour-engagement occupational centre was founded on 4 February 2019. The premises for its operation were provided by the City of Belgrade, the Secretariat for Property and Legal Affairs. The Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs – Department for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities helped its fitting out with funds allocated for the purchase of equipment and furniture. Funding was provided also by the EU Delegation, and donors from the local community.
The labour-engagement occupation centre, located in 12 Cuburska Street in the Vracar municipalityThe centre comprises four units: the “Sounds of the Heart” cafe, a kitchen, a creative workshop and a “Heart-made products” shop.

The Deki 5 football camp was founded in 2018 by Dejan Stankovic, a famous Serbian football player and national team member, and the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, in partnership with the “Mongooses” Zemun mini football club and sports club “Vasariste” , launched the initiative for the participation of children with different types of disabilities in the camp.
Child care is one of the Ministry’s priorities, and it is also strongly committed to ensuring that children with disabilities enjoy the same opportunities as other children.
