The Union of Associations of Kidney Patients of the Republic of Serbia was founded on 5 February 2006 and brings together independently associated organizations of kidney, haemodialysis, kidney transplant, home peritoneal dialysis, and chronic-renal-disease patients from the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The Union aims to improve the living conditions of people on dialysis and to raise awareness about all the problems of kidney patients.
The Union gathers 29 local associations with about 5,000 members, and the office of its president is discharged by Ljubinko Todorovic.
In pursuit of achieving its goals, the Union collects data on all kidney patients, consolidates and coordinates the work of local organizations, works towards enhancing rights in the sphere of social, health and legal protection and safety of its members, initiates, assists and follows the work of scientific meetings and lectures related to nephropathy, dialysis and transplantation, and initiates and implements many other activities aimed at improving the lives of kidney patients.
Most notable results of the Union and local associations include publishing of the “Dialysis” magazine, holding of educational forums, participation in the implementation of the transplantation promotion campaign “EXTEND LIFE”, participation in the implementation of the campaign “BE A DONOR – BECOME A HERO”, organization of lectures and educational meetings, and humanitarian actions.
