The Association of Paraplegics and Quadriplegics of Vojvodina was founded in 1987. Since its foundation, the Association has been dedicated to sports events that contribute to its members’ psycho-social and physical advancement. In addition, the Association implements activities related to getting to know the potentials and needs of people with disabilities, striving to bring people with disabilities closer to the general population as equal members of society.
The Association of Paraplegics and Quadriplegics of Vojvodina has been organizing Provincial Sports Games, already 32 years, and they contribute, in addition to socialization, also to a positive change in the public’s opinion about the successfulness of people with disabilities, among whose ranks there are also winners of the Paralympic medals in table tennis. Owing to these games, which gather contestants from all over Vojvodina who compete in athletics, 100m race, shot put, discus and javelin throw, table tennis, shooting, darts and chess, the Association has become widely known and thus enables contestants to continue their professional sport engagement.
Every year, the Association organizes the finals of Serbian Shooting Cup for people with disabilities, and this traditional event has also produced world-famous contestants.
Also, the Association advocates for adequate state support for persons with disabilities and assists its member organizations in organizing creative and educational workshops, traditional events, sports and other activities.
The Association brings together 9 provincial local organisations, and it is headed by Stevan Lukovnjak as its president.
Aleksandra Manja born in Pancevo on 4 May 1968 graduated from the “Uros Predic” General Secondary School in Pancevo, Fine Arts Academy preparatory course at the Bozidar Adzija Institute, hosted night hours of the program on the life of people with disabilities on radio Belgrade 202. She is the founder of the Association of Paraplegics of South Banat in Pancevo (established in 1999) where she started projects “Guide dogs’ assistance” and “Write so that I can see you”. She organizes art colonies for people with disabilities. She has been working as a coordinator and secretary of the Association of Paraplegics of Vojvodina since 2008. She had several solo exhibitions and is engaged in T-shirt painting. Her favorite motifs are animals. She likes to travel, visit different cities and countries, meet their cultures. Her distinctive art expression is featured by female body movements in black and white shades. In her oil paintings she likes to depict landscapes, farms, animals.
